Koehler and Trabosh Score CACC Honor Roll Mentions

New Haven, Conn. - (9/20/2016) – The opening week of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play ended on a 2-1 mark for the Chestnut Hill College women’s volleyball team, who earned victories over Felician University (3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-18)) on Tuesday, September 13 and Georgian Court University (3-2 (25-21, 12-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-12)) on Friday, September 16. Playing major roles all three contests, seniors, middle hitter Emily Koehler (Bath, Pa.) and libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) were both recognized on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll.

In the Griffins’ league opener on Tuesday, September 13, Koehler notched a match-high 10 kills to lead the Scarlet and Gold to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-18) victory over Felician University (0-6, 0-1). The two teams battled back-and-forth in the first set, trading points until the score was 12-12. Chestnut Hill College (4-7, 2-1) then found its offense, scoring nine of the next 12 points to take a convincing 21-15 edge and an eventual 25-21 first-set victory. The Griffins were able to race out to an early 17-11 advantage in the second set. The Golden Falcons then went on a run of their own, outscoring Chestnut Hill College 7-4 to cut the deficit to four, 21-17. Again, the Scarlet and Gold would hold on late, scoring a 25-20 victory for the 2-0 edge. The third set saw the Griffins soar out to an 18-11 advantage before finishing the three-set sweep with a convincing 25-18 victory.

Koehler led the way with 10 kills on a .364 hitting percentage (10K-2E-22TA). Sophomore setter Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.) paced the squad with 27 assists while Trabosh finished with a match-high 18 digs.

Chestnut Hill College used a career-high 18 kills from Koehler to earn a thrilling 3-2 (25-21, 12-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-12) come-from-behind victory over CACC foe Georgian Court University on Friday, September 16, evening. The Griffins began the game on a 12-6 run, but Georgian Court University (1-9, 0-1) responded, going on a 12-0 run of their own to hold an 18-12 edge. But the seesaw set ended with a home rally that scored 13 of the next 16 points for a 25-21 victory. Motivated by revenge, the Lions scored victories of 25-12 and 25-23 over the next two sets to control a 2-1 advantage heading to the fourth frame.

There, the Griffins and Lions were knotted at six apiece, 6-6, before the visitors ripped-off 9-0 run for a commanding 15-6 lead. With their backs against the wall, the Griffins rallied, eventually scoring the set’s final three points for a 25-23 win. The fifth set saw the Scarlet and Gold jump out to a 7-3 advantage before a 9-5 run by the visitors would tie the game late, 12-12. Again, the Griffins were able to score the last three points of the match, clinching the match 3-2 with a 15-12 set-victory.

Koehler led the way for the Griffins, hitting .467 (18K-4E-30TA) to go along with seven total blocks. Trabosh led the match with 30 digs.

Looking for their third straight CACC win, the Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team traveled to Post University for their first North Division-South Division crossover on Saturday, September 17. The Eagles greeted the Griffins with two quick wins, 25-15 and 25-12, before answering a 25-23 Scarlet and Gold victory in the third set with a match-winning 25-18 win in the fourth frame (3-1). Senior outside hitter Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.) provided a Griffin-best 19.5 points with 16 kills on a .204 (16K-5E-54TA), three aces, and a block assist while Trabosh tried to settle the Eagles’ attack with 28 digs. Koehler served as the Griffins second best scoring threat. She finished with seven kills and a dig.

The Chestnut Hill College women’s volleyball team return to Sorgenti Arena on Wednesday, September 21, when they host Holy Family University for their Get Real with Teal event. The CACC match is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. opening serve.
