ECC Awards For Landau and Maurer
                                                                                                                   
Central Islip, NY – (3/14/2011) – Chestnut Hill College finished last week with the program’s first-ever East Coast Conference (ECC) win, defeating #2 Mercyhurst College 8-7 in overtime. As a result the Griffins garnered attention across the collegiate lacrosse landscape including their league, the East Coast Conference (ECC). For their roles in last week’s triumphs freshman midfielder Mike Landau (Lancaster, PA) and sophomore goalkeeper Dakota Maurer (Lititz, PA) were recognized among the ECC’s weekly award winners.
 
Maurer’s play in goal earned him the ECC Goalkeeper of the Week award while Landau was the second Chestnut Hill College (3-2, 1-2) men’s lacrosse player to garner the league’s Rookie of the Week award. Maurer went 2-0 this week while recording 28 saves and 12 ground ball recoveries. On March 8, He made 15 saves, collected eight ground balls, and caused a turnover in an 11-8 win over American International College. He followed that performance with 13 saves and four ground balls in the upset of Mercyhurst College on March 13. He carried a 7.42 goals-against-average (GAA) and a .651 save percentage (Sv%) this week. For the season, Maurer is 3-2 with a 9.05 GAA and a .662 Sv%; he has recorded 88 saves on 189 shots faced while hustling to 30 ground balls.
 
Landau was instrumental in both of this week’s victories. Landau supplied, a game-high, four goals against American International College. He also recorded two ground balls. Against Mercyhurst College, he scored the game-winner 1:14 into overtime to push the Griffins past the Lakers 8-7. The Griffin captain scored two unassisted goals in the contest and provided an assist to total seven points for the week. For the season, Landau ranks third on the team in goals (8) and points (10). Freshman attack Mike Melnychenko (St. Catharines, Ontario) was recognized with the ECC Rookie of the Week award for the week after leading the Griffins with a seven-point debut week.
 
The men’s lacrosse team breaks from ECC play to host Penn State – Abington in a 7:00 p.m. contest on Wednesday, March 16.
