Josso Scores Second Straight CACC Player of the Week Award with ITA Play

New Haven, Conn. - (10/4/2016) – Senior Laure-Anne Josso (Vannes, France) represented Chestnut Hill College with her quarterfinal appearance in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional Women’s Singles Championship draw. She also recorded a pair of doubles wins alongside fellow senior, Louise Charley (St. Jean de Luz, France) to garner the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week award. It was the third straight appearance on the league’s weekly report for Josso, who was also named the CACC Player of the Week on September 26.

The Chestnut Hill College men’s and women’s tennis teams took a break from their match schedule to join the elite of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) East Region at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) for the ITA East Regional Championships. Josso enjoyed a first-round bye in the Women’s Singles Championship draw before scoring respective wins of 6-1, 6-2, and 6-4, 6-3, over Le Moyne College junior Rithika Vajjiravelu (Chennai, India) and Queens College senior Angelika Sobiecka (Mlawa, Poland). She eventually accepted defeat to St. Anselm College junior Jess Perkins (Shrewsbury, Mass.), 7-6 (4), 6-2, in the quarterfinal round.

In addition to her individual performance, Josso also competed alongside fellow senior, Louise Charley (St. Jean de Luz, France) in the ITA East Regional Women’s Double Championship draw. There, Josso and Charley first scored an 8-1 win over Wilmington University’s freshman-junior combo of Sabrina Blasi-Smith (Barcelona, Spain) and Laure Kriger (Pennsville, N.J.) before suffering an 8-4 loss at the hands of NYIT duo, senior Paulina Velasquez (Queens, N.Y.) and Antonella Alcerro. Charley and sophomore Hannah Murphy (Christchurch, England) also competed in the Women’s Qualifying Singled draw. Unfortunately, both dropped their first match.

The Chestnut Hill College women’s tennis team resumes their match schedules on Tuesday, October 4, when they visit Goldey-Beacom College for a 2:30 p.m. CACC match.
