Covella Collects Third Honorable Mention

For CACC Player of the Week

New Haven, CT – (3/22/2011) – Sophomore attack Nicole Covella (Vineland, NJ) earned her third straight honorable mention for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week award after leading Chestnut Hill College in contests against Georgian Court University and Molloy College. Despite two losses for the Griffins, she recorded four goals, two ground balls, and three draw controls.

Covella scored all four of her goals against Molloy College on Saturday, March 19; two coming via free position attempts (2-for-4, 50.0%). She teamed with midfielder Brianne Timony (Allentown, NJ) to answer an early 6-0 Lion run with five consecutive Chestnut Hill College (1-3, 0-1) goals, 6-5. Unfortunately, the Lions leaped back out to a 13-7 halftime advantage with a late 7-2 first-half run. The deficit only grew in the second half with the Lions outscoring the Griffins 8-3 in the frame. She also recorded a draw control in the Griffins conference loss to Georgian Court University on Tuesday, March 15.

For the season, Covella leads the Griffins in goals (14), points (15), and shots (30). She is posting a .467 shooting percentage while totaling five ground balls, ten draws, and two caused turnovers. She is 6-of-12 (50.0%) on free-position opportunities.

The women’s lacrosse team returns to CACC action on Tuesday, March 22, with a 7:00 p.m. home contest against Holy Family University.
