Pitchley Returns to CACC Men’s Tennis Weekly Report with Honor Roll Appearance

New Haven, Conn. - (4/20/2021) – Junior Tom Pitchley (London, England) returned to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Tennis Weekly Report, this time earning Honor Roll recognition for his 3-1 week versus the University of the Sciences (USciences) (W, 6-1 on April 17) and Thomas Jefferson University (Jefferson) (W, 4-3 on April 18). Pitchley won both of his number one singles matches and teamed with fellow junior Kiki Dagneaux (Saint-Gervasy, France) for a 6-3 number one doubles win in the Griffins’ 6-1 triumph over the Devils.

Chestnut Hill College (5-3, 4-2) welcomed CACC rival, USciences (0-4, 0-4) to the campus courts for a late afternoon match on Saturday, April 17. With both sides playing short-handed, the doubles point was doubled with the top two flight counting individually. The second flight finished first with freshmen, João Sousa (Pontevedra, Spain) and Domagoj Dugandzic (Stuttgart, Germany) earning the point on a 6-3 final, 1-0. Number one singles closed soon after as Chestnut Hill College (4-3, 3-2) improved their position over USciences (0-4, 0-4) with a 6-3 victory from Pitchley and Dagneaux, 2-0. As play moved to singles, Dagneaux advanced the Chestnut Hill College lead to 3-0 with his 6-0, 6-0, win at number two singles. The clincher came at four singles, where Sousa secured a 6-2, 6-0, victory; 4-0. Later, Dugandzic added Pitchley added points with wins in the fifth (6-1, 6-0) and first (6-7 (8-10), 7-6 (6-2), 10-1) singles flights, 6-0. The match concluded with the Devils’ 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-3), 10-6, win at number two singles, 6-1.

Chestnut Hill College got revenge on their March loss to Jefferson and gained a valuable league win with Sunday’s (April 18), 4-3 CACC over the Rams. Jefferson (4-3, 2-3) swept doubles, earning a 6-3 win in the third flight and a 6-4 win in the first flight before closing the round with a 6-3 win in the second flight, 1-0. Pitchley and Dagneaux were the first to end their singles matches, giving Chestnut Hill College a 2-1 lead with their respective wins in the first (6-4, 6-3) and third (6-2, 6-1) individual flights. The Rams tied the match with a 6-3, 6-4, win at number four singles, 2-2, and regained the advantage with a 6-2, 6-1, win at number four singles, 3-2. Fortunately, the Griffins had one more rally left with Dugandzic taking number five singles 6-3, 6-3, and junior Mark Gladkyy (Franklinville, N.J.) securing number six singles, 6-3, 7-5.

Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, April 20, when they visit Dominican College for a 2:00 a.m. match
