Leckonby Lures Third CACC Defensive Player of the Week Award, Sanders Settles for Honor Roll Recognition

Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (4/2/2016) – Continuing to excel in her new role, sophomore midfielder Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.) earned her third Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Defensive Player of the Week award while sophomore attack Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.) earned her first weekly Honor Roll selection. Leckonby recorded four ground balls, five draws, and three caused turnovers in addition to her four points (three goals and an assist). Meanwhile, Sanders led the Griffin offense with six goals, three assists, a ground ball, and two draws.

Returning to action for the first time since St. Patrick's Day, Chestnut Hill College opened their CACC schedule with a Wednesday evening contest opposite Wilmington University. Sanders and senior midfielder Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) got the Griffins off to a strong start before a pair of free position goals from junior midfielder Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.) spurred the Scarlet and Gold on for a 13-2 league victory. Sanders led the Griffins with five points on four goals and an assist while also recording a ground ball and a draw control. Leckonby recorded a goal, two ground balls, two draws, and a caused turnover.

Continuing to dominate their early CACC schedule, Chestnut Hill College dismantled Felician University in a 21-0 league final on Saturday evening. Sanders, Keimig, and sophomore attack Julia Galantich (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) each recorded a hat trick, leading the Griffins to the first shutout in program history. Sanders and Galantich both recorded two assists in addition to their three goals for five points apiece; Sanders also recovered a draw control. Leckonby supplied two goals, an assist, two ground balls, three draws, and two caused turnovers.

The Chestnut Hill College women’s lacrosse team now travels to Dominican College on Tuesday, April 5, to resume their CACC schedule with a 4:00 p.m. contest against the Lady Chargers.
