Floyd-Bennett and Martines Make CACC Weekly Report
New Haven, Conn. – (4/4/2016) – Chestnut Hill College began its participation in Widener University's Danny Curry Invitational with the Friday’s running of the 5,000-Meter Runs and Discus events and concluded it with a full day of competition on Saturday, April 4. For their efforts at the two-day event, freshman Raevon Floyd-Bennett (Union City, N.J.) earned the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) was recognized as the league’s Track Rookie of the Week while sophomore Giancarlo Martines (Cherry Hill, N.J.) garnered an Honor Roll mention.
Martines provided a school record in Friday’s distance competition with his third place (15:05.21) finish while Floyd-Bennett ran 12th (2:01.34) in the 800-Meter Run before helping the Scarlet and Gold relay team place 10th (3:44.37) in the 4x400. Martines' third place (15:05.21) run in the men's 5,000-Meter topped Chestnut Hill College's first day finishes at the Danny Curry Invitational. He was joined in the event by junior Eric Barton (Colora, Md.), who ran 34th with a time of 17:18.96. The Griffins enjoyed a full day of competition on Saturday, April 2, setting program records in the women’s 1,500-Meter Run and Javelin, as well as, the men’s 400-Meter Hurdle and Shot Put.
The Chestnut Hill College men’s and women’s track and field teams compete next at the Gwynedd Mercy University Midweek Twilight Meet which is schedule for Wednesday, April 13.
