Maniscalco Named CACC Goalkeeper of the Week, Durta Draws Honor Roll Recognition

New Haven, Conn. – (10/9/2018) – Totaling 10 saves in a 2-0 week versus Holy Family University (W, 2-1 on October 3) and Dominican College (W, 1-0 on October 6), junior goalkeeper Frank Maniscalco (Philadelphia, Pa.) was recognized as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Goalkeeper of the Week. Fellow junior, midfielder Pedro Dutra (Passos, Brazil) earned an Honor Roll mention, scoring the eventual game-winner in the Griffins’ 2-1 win over the Tigers on Wednesday, October 3.

Chestnut Hill College (5-7, 4-4) united for a 2-1 victory over CACC rival Holy Family University (4-8, 4-3) in Wednesday night’s affair. Senior midfielder Tyler Johnson (Howell, N.J.) tallied the Griffin's first half goal, while Dutra supplied the second security goal in the latter frame. The Scarlet and Gold entered the field hungry in the second half, searching for another goal to secure their edge. That time came at 64:14, when sophomore defender Matt Kehr (Exton, Pa.) chipped the ball ahead to Dutra who won the one-on-one battle with the keeper, 2-0. This gave the Scarlet and Gold the comfort they needed for the remainder of the affair as the Tigers did manage to log one goal at 87:09, but it was not enough to take down the Griffins, 2-1. Maniscalco made six saves in the win (1-2).

In Saturday’s contest at Dominican College (4-8, 5-3), Chestnut Hill College only needed one mistake to the Chargers as senior forward Jason Doherty (Letterkenny Donegal, Ireland) intercepted and scored a pass back to the Charger goalkeeper to give the Griffins a 1-0 triumph. The league victory was the Griffins’ second straight by a one-goal margin and evens the team’s conference record at 4-4. Chestnut Hill College pressured Dominican College throughout the first half, but was unsuccessful in 13 tries. The Griffins continued to push the issue at the start of the second half. At 51:04, it all paid off as Doherty made a great individual play to steal the ball and break the scoreless stalemate, 1-0. Looking to recover, the Chargers outshot the Griffins the rest of the way. Fortunately, Maniscalco and the Scarlet and Gold defense was able to keep them at bay and preserve Chestnut Hill College’s CACC prize. Dutra took four shots, while four others took at least two. Maniscalco made the only four saves he needed to in order to earn the win (2-2).
